  • I could see Apple using their own chips for MacBooks. The A-series has been improving by leaps and bounds every year. Give them a few more years of development and give the chips a lot more power and cooling; I think it's possible to completely replace their Intel MacBooks with their own A15/16/20/whatever MacBooks.

  • #askrene I am contemplating the transition from a very old 21" iMac to MB Pro 15". I never needed to work on the move or make presentation ( iPad/iPhone can do that with Lightning to HDMI cable). Also I prefer a bigger screen to work rather than strain on a MB Pro screen. Unfortunately I am at a point where I need to upgrade due to my Print design/ After Effects workload and the Apple event is few weeks away. I would've gone for upcoming rumored Mac Mini Pro / iMac 27" but that would take more than a month probably to be available. Unfortunately again, the Display I would go for if I got the MB Pro is LG 4K or BenQ 4K both of which are not available here till mid next month. Totally up the wall on the upgrade story of my life! Please suggest, I would really appreciate it, Rene.

  • 7:00. I wouldn’t use apple photos or especially any cloud for photo storage. Use the os’s folder system to sort a hierarchy of folders that sorts years-> events then folders for raw, jpg, online in each. This way if you change mac or windows then you are fine, its just a filesystem. Also filesystems can sort metadata now. THEN you can import to apple photo and view through that. But remember, the photo library thru apple is a proprietary file system. Clouds storage maybe for backup, but they are all hackable. Privacy is king. Google just wants your free data to sell on wallstreet and leave you with likes, nothing else. Its yhe harvesting of personal privacy.

  • Great answer to my question. They should just pull a facebook and clone what works. I agree with Mac Mini being the best device to test. I'd replace one of the apple tvs with that one

  • Apple isn’t going to make the entry level Mac ARM. If they do make the switch, which has been rumored for like 10 years, they’ll do it to not only unify their line across desktop and mobile, but also dump Intel, which has been a dog for about a decade now. Once Macs can get smaller and less modular, it will just inherently happen. Probably a long way off. Also god Rene is the biggest nerd; love it 🙂

  • Apple is being retarded. There are millions of developers like myself, who are not making youtube videos, who dont need a super graphics card - YOU Know - we write code! Literally millions & millions of guys who want a mac mini with a core i9 - 6 core. I dont want a laptop, I dont want a imac. I want a desktop thats powerful enough to make apps and compile. - I dont want a mac pro. JEEZ apple - get it right for once.

  • I can't see Apple switching just one machine to ARM. Since the Mac Mini is based on laptop innards, I could easily see them pitting ARM in both MacBooks and Mac Minis. Apple's A-series processors could certainly help them keep costs down as needed for the low-end machines. I wonder if they could expand the use of the ARM Tx processors in the Pro Macs to full co-processor status while retaining the X86 processors. There is some advantage to having the only machines on the market which can run both Windows and MacOS, but I see no problem with requiring a pro series purchase for that feature. Starting ARM processors on the low-end machines is also helped by the fact that Apple's porting its own system software and apps over would cover the needs of a large portion of low-end buyers' needs, making the wait for 3rd party developers less painful.
