This is updated video of how to make an emergency shelter from single 2x3 sheet (tarp). It is done in less then 3 min and costs about £2. The weight with the poles (can be used walking stick, too) is half to one kilogram. Also the tarp can be used as hammock, rain-cape, etc. See another set up made from a square tarp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwnXcW_MMkM It is one of the things that everybody interested in surviving and travelling through the wilderness must know how to do. Edit: It does not leak from the hole in the middle of the tarp, even in heavy rein. The top looks open, but it is not, it could be rolled up and closed easily. Edit 2: This is to show the idea how 2x3 sheet is folded in pyramid, there are many improvements that can be done, according each taste.

  • Excellent video. Very good simple and effective design. It looks like it could be easily filled with leaves or grass to insulate you from the ground. This is one that I will have to try. Thank you.

  • New subscriber here. However I do not like the fact that you poke the hole in your tarp. I am not judging I just don't like it LOL. Shalom

  • Very nice. The epitome of simplicity. The only thing I might have a problem with is the stick poke to the middle of the tarp. Other than that I love it.

  • Any closed setups like this that can shelter from the rain?

  • I noticed that as well... by putting the pole outside, you won't have a leak from the floor...

  • Couldn't he fold the tarp first, then put the first pole on the outside of the tarp? No need to stab the thing.

  • This is well shown. If people are worried about water going through the central hole, lashing can be used to seal the tarp on the stick. Cheers, Luciano
