  • PCGS is all over the place in their grading....well, NGC is also. These guys spend an average of 30 SECONDS to grade a coin.....yep, 30 seconds. Their graders average 100-120 coins per hour. Its no surprise that these grades come back much higher or lower than expected. You have a large group of coin enthusiasts that can all look at a coin and give a fairly consistent grade, then PGCS or NGC take a left turn somewhere along the way. Dont be misled....these guys are hungry for the money they are charging to slap your coin into a piece of plastic with a sticker in it. Yes, a graded and slabbed coin certainly has an affect on the final market value.....so shame on us for allowing that to take place at such a penetrating level. I have, and will likely continue to get, graded coins....but predominantly because the market has dictated it

  • How much do they charge to grade a coin ????

  • Nobody can accurately grade a coin in a video or photo. It must be viewed in person. Also, your Morgan would have been graded AU55 with or without the spots.

  • Soooooo nice to see a young guy like you into Numismatic Coins. So sick of watching your generation just "stacking" silver and giving their opinions on silver prices, inflation, etc. I'm a Financial Advisor...stick with Numismatic Coins (if slabbed, even better)!

  • I HAVE A 1881cc that is really dirty. (Black instead of silver). It was is in a 2"x 2" cardboard holder with vg written on the flat part. PCCS offers a RESTORE service. Should I send it to them? Most of my coins are PCGS graded and in holders. IS PCGS HAVE A GOOD VIABLE RESTORE PROCEDURE? generally I have only proofs but this was a very good price. (40.00) I am sure they did not =know what they had. SUGGESTIONS?

  • You did GREAT!!! I do not think the spots on the Morgan would effect you a whole bunch until MS grades as this is fairly common. I have been sending in coins for years and normally I am spot on with my MS-66 and MS-67 coins. I had PCGS grade about 70 coins since they started and I have hit almost all of them spot on. The higher grades are actually easier in my opinion because the coins have to be so perfect. The hardest part is Luster and Eye Appeal but most of what I get graded are pennies so there is less coin to worry about compared to these large dollars. Congrats on your purchases you did amazingly well and basically stole the coins from the seller at 1/10 of their value and you knew it. Just beware of Karma she is very mean when it comes to coins in my opinion.
